The 2014/2015 school year is about to begin. It will bring many changes. The biggest change is that all California schools will now be adapting the new Common Core Standards. Will our children be ready? Will our teachers be ready? Like any major change, we can expect a period of transition and possibly even some confusion. I believe we have highly skilled, passionate teachers in California. I know because hundreds of them work for REACH as tutors.
Common Core brings changes to the way our children a taught. They will succeed but will continue to need supplemental tutoring to help them reach the success level they and their parents seek.
REACH remains passionate about assisting children with the customized tutoring program they need. To do this, we need additional Regional Directors throughout various areas of California.
We are seeking qualified candidates to run their own REACH business. If you are passionate about assisting children succeed and want to grow a successful business, please contact us.
WE LOVE OUR TEACHERS AT REACH
Meet Juli. Juli is currently a English Learner support teacher for Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth graders at an elementary school in the Corona Norco Unified School District. When she first started teaching in 2006, Juli worked mostly in the primary grades of Kindergarten through Third. This school year, she is starting to gain more experience in Upper grades and is enjoying their independent thinking skills and abilities, especially with the Nation’s shift into Common Core.
Juli graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies. She also attended the same school to work on her Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential. Keeping true to Cal Poly Pomona she is currently working a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis on Curriculum and Instruction.
Although she is a very busy person, she still attends cycle classes at the gym at least two times a week. She also spends a lot of time with her family and friends.
Juli has been a REACH Teacher for over a year and is currently working with multiple students. They have all shown improvement since enrolling in REACH and having Juli as their tutor. Juli says “ With one on one tutoring I can really get know and to understands students specific needs. This helps me to tailor my teaching style to get individual students engaged and focused on what area they need help with”
Thank you Juli for being part of our faculty and for the great work you have done in assisting REACH students.
Juli is one of over 100 credentialed teachers on the REACH faculty. She reports to one of our Regional Directors. If you are interested in managing your own REACH territory and enjoying a substantial part time income, please contact us.
STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Daniel is a First grade student. When he started First grade he was struggling academically and was apprehensive when it came to working in all academic areas. He had limited knowledge of many Kindergarten sight words and no knowledge of First grade sight words.
Daniel enrolled in REACH in October. Over the past four months Daniel has worked hard to catch up. His tutor, Juli says that Daniel has been an excellent student. “Daniel is fully caught up on his Kindergarten sight words, and we are working through the about half of the First grade words” commented Juli. His REACH tutor, Juli, has helped Daniel build his confidence on doing schoolwork and homework.
Daniel’s Mom says that Daniel is more excited about going to school. He does not get upset when he gets dropped off in the morning. “He wants to go to school now.” Says Mom.
Every tutoring session, Juli works with Daniel on his homework packet which consists of spelling words that he has to put in sentences, write in ABC order, and write five times each. Daniel has become very good at putting his words in ABC order. He can now work on the ten spelling words with little or no help. He has also started to fully master ABC order to the second letter. He can recognize that words like “catch” would come before “crawling” if needed to be put in ABC order. Daniel has gotten the hang of this skill while many First graders still struggle with it.
Overall, Daniel has come a long way since his enrollment in REACH. He is a more confident student in all academic areas. It makes Daniel’s parents and his tutor happy to see him starting to write sentences on his own and making the effort to piece together the skills he has learned in school and from his tutoring sessions. About a month ago Daniel’s mom mentioned that his teacher said that he will no longer be considered for retention. CONGRATULATIONS DANIEL. Everyone at REACH Professional Tutoring is proud of you. Keep moving forward.

Student of the week: GREG HAAS
Greg is an 8th grade student currently enrolled with REACH and receiving in home-tutoring in Algebra. His tutor, Tony, says that Greg is an intelligent young man who has good grades overall, but was struggling in math. His tutor says, “Greg was struggling because he did not have the appropriate resources to be successful. While I have been tutoring Greg, I have observed him begin to ask good questions in order to comprehend the formula for answering the problem vs. just asking what the answer is – that is real progress and proves that Greg has increased his understanding of Algebra.”
In addition, Greg is now more comfortable raising his hand in class and is asking the right kinds of questions to ensure his continued understanding. Greg’s Mom, Carolyn, says that before calling REACH, Greg felt frustrated that he did not understand Algebra and was not receiving enough help during class. His parents were fearful that he would not be prepared for high school. After just a couple of months with his REACH tutor, mom reports that Greg now has an A in Algebra! Greg is already preparing for graduation. CONGRATULATIONS GREG!.
Everyone at REACH is excited about your success and wishes you the best for the remainder of this school year and your high school years. Greg’s tutor, Tony, is one of over 100 California credentialed teachers on the REACH faculty.
